Language facilities
Non-Dutch-speaking students and staff can also be elected members of participation bodies. To support these members in their role, the University offers a range of language facilities.
It is important that all members of participation bodies have access to the information they need and are given enough time and space to prepare and ask questions. It is also important that members are able to follow meetings properly.
Language support facilities, such as a translation tool or a language buddy, are therefore available for non-Dutch-speaking members of councils and boards. This is in line with the University’s language policy.
Language facilities for members of participation bodies
- Translation tool: Meeting documents can be automatically translated from Dutch into English using an online tool.
- Language buddy: A language buddy will help you understand and speak the language used during meetings.
- Agreements for meetings: Agreements can be made with the chair or secretary to assist non-Dutch-speaking members at meetings.
Courses
In addition to these language facilities, international council and board members can also improve their Dutch speaking and listening skills by completing a course offered by the University Language Centre. For information on the allowance available for this, please contact the secretary of your board/council.
