Department of Bachelor's Education
The Department of Bachelor's Education staffs the workgroup education and safeguards the quality of the teaching of the workgroup education in the bachelor's programme in psychology.
Origin and perspective ABO
The Department of Bachelor's Education (ABO) has existed since 2018 and first went through two pilot years.
In the first year of the pilot, the department focused on first-year workgroup education (generalist subjects), second-year workgroup education was added in 2019 (clinical subjects), and workgroup education of Methods and & Statistics (statistical subjects) followed in 2020. These three components form the three divisions of the ABO.
After a two-year pilot, the ABO unit was incorporated as a separate department within the regulations of the Psychology Institute as of 1 January 2020. As the name suggests, the ABO focuses on education - specifically workgroup education.
Organisation ABO
With approximately 50 employees (20 fte), the ABO unit provides approximately 30,000 teaching hours. ABO has one head and three coordinators of the three divisions, who have ties to the various sections of the Psychology Institute. Together with two secretaries and one scheduling agent, they form the ABO staff.
The ABO employs mostly young lecturers who have recently completed their masters in psychology and are working on their Basic Teaching Qualification (BKO). But more experienced lecturers are also welcome at the ABO in order to have a good balance between starters and more experienced lecturers. The ABO values inclusion and diversity and is also popular with international staff.
