Everyone affiliated with the Institutes of Cultural Anthropology and Development Sociology, Political Science and the Centre for Science and Technology Studies can submit an ethics review request. This includes project managers, professors, PhD candidates, postdocs, and visiting researchers.

The Ethics Review Committee Social Sciences can review any research proposal. Researcher can submit an ethics review request because third-party funders require an ethics assessment of a research proposal, but research can also do so when they themselves wish to consult the committee on research ethics.

The ethics of a research project need to be considered in before carrying out the research. The exact time at which the ethics of a prospective research project needs to be considered might depend on the requirements by funding organisation. Some funders require an ethical approval before accepting the grant application. Other funders require such ethical approval only after accepting the grant proposal.

The Ethics Review Committee tries to respond within 15 working days. The Ethics Review Committee might ask you to address additional issues before approval can be given, in which case more time may be needed.

In case you are involved in an interdisciplinary research project within our faculty, you only need to submit your ethics review request to one review committee – please choose the committee that is most appropriate

If you collaborate with external partners, you may still submit your ethics review request to the Ethics Review Committee Social Sciences. If your research project has already been reviewed by another review committee elsewhere, you may still submit an ethics review request to the Ethics Review Committee Social Sciences, but this is not necessary.
